Jeanette G. "Jenny" Olmstead(Groth), 82, of LaFayette died peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side on Friday, March 28,2025. Born in Syracuse, NY, she was the daughter of William and Muriel(Warner) Groth. She was a graduate of LaFayette High School. She started a home business "Janel Arts and Crafts" with her mother, Muriel Groth in Lafayette and after its closure she worked for 20 years at Nationwide Insurance as a Data Entry Clerk and a Medical Claims Adjuster at both the Syracuse and Columbus offices. After Nationwide, she continued to work part time for McDonalds in LaFayette and A.C.Moore in Dewitt. She was very involved in her Community her entire life. Starting in high school as a cheerleader,a chorus and band member. Then in her adult life in bowling leagues, the Marcellus Jaycees, The LaFayette Community Council, the LaFayette Apple Festival "Kountry Kitchen", and as "Apple Jenny", Nationwide insurance Annual Food Drive organizer, LaFayette Central School Board, the LaFayette Columbian Presbyterian Church, and acted in her own fathers community productions. She also found time to assist with the High School Drama Department Costume and wardrobe alterations when her sons were in school. She was greatly involved in her family's lives supporting both her son's and her grandchildren's activities such as sporting events, concerts, artwork, plays and musicals, girl scouts, boy scouts and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation walks. She had a passion for sewing and quilting. She created NY State Fair Award winning quilts, arts and crafts, and assisted with the "Craft-mart" in the NY State Fair Arts and Home Center. She loved crafts and made many to share with family, friends and the community. She enjoyed doing the craft booth at the LaFayette annual Memorial Day celebration. She baked beautiful custom cakes. She taught this love of sewing and crafts to her children and their children and the community. She was a member of the Lafayette Colombia Presbyterian church for over 50 years and was always there for a helping hand.
Jeanette was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Ralph I. Olmstead, in 2011 one grandchild and one great grandchild. She is survived by her three sons Kevin (Tina) of Florida, Joel (Donna) of Syracuse, Daniel (Cynthia) of Tully; three siblings Susan Malley of LaFayette, Margaret Nowicki of Colorado, and Arthur(Linda) Groth of Florida; 9 Grandchildren; and 18 Great-Grandchildren. Jeanette was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother who created many lasting and loving memories for both family and her community that will surround us forever. She was a beautiful soul who touched all those she met and she will be greatly missed.
Calling hours will be at Ballweg and Lunsford Funeral home in LaFayette from 4-6 on Thursday April 3 and Services will be at LaFayette Columbian Presbyterian Church on Friday at 11:00. www.bellweg-lunsford.com
