Donnell Lewis Hurley passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, in Palm Bay, Florida, at the age of 88.

He is survived by his children, Erin Capozzi (David) of McLean, VA, and Miles Hurley (Joanna) of Atlanta, GA; his stepchildren, Valerie Cantrell (Chris) of Nashville, TN, Steven Maguire (Kelly) of Arlington, VA, and Heather DeLaPiedra (Jack) of Gulf Breeze, FL; and his sister, Faye Burke (Ronald) of Chattanooga, TN. He also leaves behind grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Penelope “Penny” Hurley; his brother, Leonard Hurley; and his parents, Leonard F. Hurley and Frances Elizabeth Hurley (Lewis).

Don was born April 4, 1937, in Knoxville, TN. He graduated from Knoxville West High School (1955) and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (1959), and earned his law degree from the University of Tennessee in 1962. He began his career in the insurance business in Knoxville with his father and later continued in Atlanta as an executive with Zurich Insurance Company.

He married Marie Andes, with whom he had two children; they later divorced. In 1984, he married Penny Robinson and became a devoted stepfather to her three children.

After retiring, Don worked with his son Miles’ law firm before settling in Gatlinburg, TN, and later Satellite Beach, FL. He remained there after Penny’s passing in 2022.

Don was active in the Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, and volunteered with the YMCA, Habitat for Humanity, SHINE, and VITA. An Eagle Scout and troop leader, he also coached youth hockey. He was an avid birdwatcher and a skilled woodworker known for both functional and artistic creations.

Don will be remembered for his devotion to family, faith, and service.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Pineda Presbyterian Church, 5650 N. Wickham Road Melbourne Florida on May 16th, 2026, at 10:00 am.
