Marilyn (Nuzback) Nichols
April 28, 1950 — December 8, 2025
Marilyn (Nuzback) Nichols, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and educator, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, in Melbourne, Florida, at the age of 75. Born on April 28, 1950, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Marilyn’s life was marked by her unwavering devotion to her family, her lifelong commitment to education, and her passion for books.
Marilyn grew up in Michigan, the cherished daughter of Joseph and Helen (Smola) Nuzback. She pursued higher education at the University of Cincinnati, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. It was there she met the love of her life, Curtis Nichols. They married on April 21, 1972, and began a journey together that lasted 54 years. Marilyn furthered her academic achievements with a Master’s Degree in Education from Michigan State University.
Marilyn dedicated 10+ years to teaching at the elementary K-5 level, where she shaped the lives of countless young students with her enthusiasm and dedication. Her love of learning and literature led her to a rewarding career in book sales and textbook editing, roles she passionately embraced until retiring in 2017.
Marilyn’s love for dogs was a cornerstone of who she was, having 9 over the course of her life. Before having children, she enjoyed showing her first two Irish Setters and won the title of National Champion. Marilyn always dreamed of having a litter of puppies and after many obstacles, she experienced the joy of 9 Irish Setter puppies at Christmas!
Marilyn’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Curtis Nichols; three devoted children, Jennifer Brenchley (and her husband, Jeff), Patricia Scalamoni (and her husband, Sam), and Matthew Nichols (and his wife, Mindy); seven cherished grandchildren. Marilyn was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Nuzback; her mother, Helen Nuzback; and her sister, Mary Ann Fenwick.
Marilyn will be remembered for her warm spirit, her endless love, and the countless memories she shared with family and friends. She will be deeply missed and we will celebrate her life at a memorial service to honor the lasting impact she made on everyone who knew her.
