Thomas Henry Smith Jr.

July 22, 1948 — March 31, 2026

Thomas Smith Jr., a man of quiet strength and many talents, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship and devotion.  A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Thomas carried the values of service and integrity throughout his life.  In his quieter moments, Thomas found peace on the water with a fishing rod in hand or in his workshop, where he transformed simple pieces of wood into lasting treasures.  His hands were rarely still, and his work was a reflection of his patience and eye for detail.

Above all, Thomas was a devoted family man.  He shared nearly 50 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sandra Smith, a partnership built on a lifetime of love and shared memories.  Among their favorite memories were their trips to the Florida Keys, where they found relaxation and happiness on the coast. He was a proud and loving father to his daughter, Christy Smith, and his son, Tommy Smith (Chief), his grandchildren, Grey Cook, Lukas Cook and Ramsie Brasington.  In addition to his wife and children, Thomas is survived by his sisters, Yvonne Ambrose and Adelia Malatesta-Cox and his beloved cat, Buddy.  He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Smith Sr and his mother, Barbara Smith-White and, whose spirit he now joins in peace.

He will be remembered for his steady presence, his love for the outdoors, and the beautiful things he built – both with his hands and his heart.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held on May 7, 2026, at 12:30 pm at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
