Biography
Betty McAllister died unexpectedly Sunday, June 27, 2010. She was born on January 10, 1928 and was one of thirteen children born to Barney and Margaret Handley in Utica, New York. She traveled extensively with her first Husband Benjamin Byland, who preceded her. In Florida, she married her second husband, John McCallister, on February 14, 2000 who preceded her a year later.
She was the proud and loving mother of three children, Robert Byland of Elmira, New York, Colleen Soltys of Titusville, FL and Kimberley Work of Painted Post, NY. Her adoring and saddened family includes a brother, Robert handley and family of NY; daughter-in-law, Rose Y. Byland; son-in-law; David Work; step-children, Lance McAllister, Garth McAllister and Darcy Ball; grandchildren include Michelle Fry, John Vanderland, Julie Soltys, Matthew Work, Sarah Work, Russell and Eric Byland; and five great-grandchildren. Her love for her family was unbounded.
Betty was an active member of the Moose Club and Church of Our Saviour Catholic Church, and will be greatly missed by her Florida friends.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:00pm Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Our Saviour’s Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach. Gifts of remembrance can be made in Betty’s name to the American Cancer Society or to Our Saviour’s Catholic Church, 5301 N. Atlantic Ave., Cocoa Beach, FL 32931.
