Charles S. Dickerson Jr

Charles S. Dickerson passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 13, at the age of 92, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Port Jefferson, NY, the son of Charles and Mary Jane Dickerson. He graduated from Port Jefferson High School and Packard School of business.
Following service with the U.S. Navy, he began his career with the First National Bank of Port Jefferson. He retired in 1980 as District Vice President of Chemical Bank of NY. Charlie was always very active in community service. He was a long time member of the Lyons Club, Salvation Army, served on the Town of Brookhaven Industrial Advisory Commission, and as President of the Board of Directors of John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson. In 1970, he was voted ""Man of the Year"" by the Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce, and in 1971, Charlie received the Theodore Roosevelt Award by the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council for his volunteerism. After retirement, he volunteered his time as an auxiliary member at Cape Canaveral Hospital.
A loving and much loved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, he is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Astrid (Armstrong) of Cocoa Beach, Fl.; children, Walter Chamberlin (Eleanor), Mark Chamberlin (Evelyn) and Leslie Baum (Frank); eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Bette Wells, and Jerri McDowell.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to William Childs Hospice House. You may sign Charlie's guestbook at www.beckman-williamson.com
