Col. Horace Everett Frink

Col. Horace E. ""Ev"" Frink, Jr., 91, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at his home in Cocoa Beach. Col. Frink was born in Malden, MA and retired to Cocoa Beach in 1975.He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rollins College. A veteran of WWII, he flew B-17 bombers ,"The Flying Fortress", for the 8th Air Force, 384th Bomb Group stationed in Grafton Underwood, England. He flew over 40 missions in Europe during WWII as a bomber pilot, squadron leader and group commander. Among his many decorations were the Distinguished Flying Cross and the French Croix de Guerre. He attended the Air Command and Staff School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama in 1950 and the National War College, Fort Lesley McNair, Washington, D.C. in 1961-62. Following the war, Colonel Frink's command assignments included 1945-47 recruiting program in Florida and Georgia; 1948-50 Clinton County Air Force Base, Wilmington, Ohio; 1952-53, Narsarssuak Air Base, Greenland; 1962-64 6900th Security Wing, Karamursel,Turkey. Col. Frink was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Eileen. He is survived by his five children: H.E. ""Skip"" Frink III of Carrabelle, Florida, Sherry Wheeler of Plant City, Florida, Kathleen Frink of Cocoa Beach, Florida, Sharon Frink of Orlando, Florida and Gregory Frink of Dunellon, Florida; and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10:00am Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach.
