Daniel Stephens

Dan Stephens, a lifelong resident of Cocoa Beach passed away at home on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the age of 59 with his loving wife, Diane, by his side. Dan will be remembered by many for numerous events that demonstrated him to be a good Christian. The last eleven years of his life, Dan’s priority was serving the Lord with his brothers and sisters at Calvary Chapel Merritt Island. He was driven with desire to take care of his wife as he had vowed to do. Dan was a graduate of Cocoa Beach High School in the class of 1968; he was one of the best football players of Cocoa Beach High School. He played in the CBHS Alumni football game for four decades. Dan was an avid Gator fan who attended the University of Florida in the early seventies. He earned degrees in B.A. and a B.S. in recreation. Dan was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister, Cindy. He leaves behind Diane, his devoted wife of many years; brother, Billy (Patti) Stephens; nephew, Tyler; uncle, Bobby (Debbie) Hicks; cousins, Charlie (Roseanne, Deceased); Kyle (Kelly), Kristen (Mike), Susan and Missy; nieces, Josslyn, Shalonce, Lauren, Jessica, Amanda, Rachael and Sara. Dan will also be missed by many people that grew up in Cocoa Beach in the early sixties as their parents forged the new space program. Dan was riding waves before surfing even became popular. Calling hours will be from 5 until 7pm Friday, March 12th at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach. A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, March 13th at Calvary Chapel Merritt Island. A private graveside service with full military honors will be held at Florida Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Dan’s name to the Cocoa Beach High School Alumni Assn. or to the Calvary Chapel Merritt Island Cancer Fund.
