David Wesley Ball

Apr 17, 1939 — May 8, 2026

It is with profound sadness that the family of David “Dave” Ball, 87, announces his peaceful passing after a brief illness on May 8, 2026, in Merritt Island, Florida. Born April 17, 1939 to Ray and Maria Ball of Lynn, Massachusetts, David wore many hats throughout his life; a proud United States NAVY veteran; a mechanic for Eastern Airlines and for Kennedy Space Center; a volunteer and church member; a father of 2 daughters and 2 sons; and the most important role, a loving husband to his wife Patricia “Pat” of 67-years.

David leaves behind his beloved wife, a brother and wife Allan and Marie Ball, a sister and late brother in-law Donald and Maria Chouinard, brother in-law and wife Norm and Norma Legro, a sister in-law to his late brother Ray and Anne Ball, daughters and their spouses Deby and Michael Ryan, Laurie and Dan Wells, sons and their spouses David (Jr.) and Deidre, Michael and Susan Ball, 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Dave’s passion for working on cars started early in life and continued until his body could no longer do the work, but his knowledge was not lost. Recently assisting a great-grandson diagnosing a problem over the phone. Besides his mechanical skills and ability to fix just about anything; he was an avid bowler (achieving a perfect 300-game) and dart player at the local Moose Lodge; a snow mobile and boating enthusiast; a traveler, he traveled by Planes, Trains and Automobiles (also, RVs, cruise ships and the occasional 10-wheeler). When he traveled alone, he would say “it strengthens (saved) our marriage.”

He found joy in some of the slower things in life; like fishing with the grandchildren or watching his favorites teams (Bruins/Celtics/Patriots/Red Sox) and players (Tom Brady/ Mookie Betts) on TV or live at a particular venue. Dave enjoyed singing, whether it be in church, a choir, at home or even trying his voice at a Barber Shop Quartet, his baritone voice will be remembered. But his most notable and memorable performances came when singing “Happy Birthday” to someone on their special day.

A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held on May 14, 2026, in the Chapel at First Baptist Church Merritt Island. Additionally, an internment service will be held on May 27, 2026, at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery. The family welcomes donations to the House of Hope in Merritt Island, FL in lieu of flowers.
