Elaine Joyce Beck (Beran), 76, December 30, 1933-June 12, 2010. Resident of Merritt Island, FL since 1974. Elaine passed away peacefully at the Wuesthoff Hospice Care Center in Rockledge, FL. Elaine was born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, PA. and graduated from St Nicholas High School in 1951. Elaine moved to Washington, D.C. in 1960 to work for the federal government. She rose to the position of Administrative Assistant to the Deputy Administrator of NASA. Following her retirement from NASA, Elaine received her BA in psychology from Rollins College, Brevard Campus in 1989.
Elaine was one of four daughters born to the late Frank and Mary Blank. Elaine was married three times and widowed twice. She was married to Gerard Beran, who died in 1982, and later to Joseph Joyce who died in 2005.
She is survived by her beloved and devoted husband, William Beck. Elaine was the sister of the late Irene Hillinger of Bowie, MD and the late Louise Burke of Kingston, PA. She is survived by her loving sister, Jeanne Gober of Bowie MD; by her devoted niece and nephews, Edward (Nancy) Burke of Kingston, PA, Jack (Amy) Gober of New Market, MD, Mary Lou (John) McDonough of Mitchellville, MD, Paul (Kathy) Hillsinger of Bowie, MD and nine great nieces and nephews along with countless other friends and family who were blessed to know her.
Elaine loved reading, basket-making, quilting, sewing and collecting antiques and collectibles. She was always interested in travel, and later years became an avid cruiser traveling to Asia, Australia and the South Pacific, Europe, South America, Alaska, and the Caribbean. Elaine was also an active member of Divine Mercy Catholic Community, and helped distribute the Eucharist to the ill and homebound. She touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity. Her famous laugh was a trademark among her family and friends.
Friends and family are invited to attend services at: Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 1940 North Courtenay Parkway, Merritt Island, FL on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 10:30AM. Visiting and viewing will be held at 9:30AM in the chapel of the church prior to the Mass of Christian Burial in the church at 10:30AM.
