Francis Carl Uvaro
September 20, 1914 — February 21, 2010
Frank Uvaro, 95, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010 at his home in Cocoa Beach.
Frank was born on September 20th 1914 at home in the Bronx, NY to Anna and Carl Uvaro. He attended grammar and high school in New York.
Frank graduated from Fordham University in 1939 with a PHY (School of Pharmacy) and BS degree.
He later attended Harvard Dental School and graduated in 1943 with a DMD degree. Frank married Rachel, his loving wife of 64 years, in 1942.
He was commissioned in the Navy for the remainder of WWII and then settled down to start a dental practice only to be drafted a second time during the Korean War.
After being decommissioned he started his second dental practice in 1953. He happily retired in 1981 at the age of 67.
Frank and Rachel settled in Cocoa Beach in 1981 for winters and enjoyed summers in Hampton Bays, NY.
He was known and loved by friends and family for his wit and humor. Though he often complained of his dislike for dentistry he relished having a captive audience for his perennial jokes.
Although he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 6 years ago his good humor would often surface as his family and caretakers can attest to.
Frank lived a long and happy life and his smiling face will surely be missed by all that knew and loved him.
He was a good husband, father, and grandfather, a kind gentle soul.
He is survived by one sister, Mildred Silvestri of Cocoa Beach, his daughter Michelle Colangelo of Indian Harbor Beach, his son and daughter in law Carl and Kathy Uvaro of Cocoa Beach, his grandchildren Jason and Taj Uvaro, Ashley Colangelo, and Jamie Malkin, and his great grandchildren Logan and Zander Colangelo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am Friday, February 26, 2010 at Church of Our Saviour Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach.
