General John Vogt

Biography General John William Vogt, a resident of the Indian River Colony Club, died on Friday, April 16th in Melbourne, Florida. John, son of Ruth Badge and John Vogt, Sr., was born on March 18, 1920 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He graduated from Yale University with a degree in Foreign Relations, received a Masters of International Affairs degree from Columbia University, and a Fellowship at Harvard. Scholar, warrior and statesman, he serviced his beloved country as an Air Force Officer for 35 years, retiring in 1975 from his last assignment as Commander-in-Chief of American and Allied Air Forces in Europe. From World War II as a Fighter Pilot Ace, to the last days of the Vietnam War, to countless appointments on Presidential Commissions and Intelligence advisory post, he continued in service to his country. John Vogt was a compassionate and loving father to his beloved daughter, Leslie Anne Vogt and a caring husband to his wife Kathie (nee Doris Adams). He was with us for sixty-four wonderful years and will be in our hearts forever General Vogt will be buried with his military peers in Arlington National Cemetery at 3:00P.M., Thursday, August 5, 2010. The family will be hosting a reception at the Fort Meyer Officers Club from 4 till 6P.M.
