Biography
Mary Ellen Jones, a retired registered nurse, teacher and housewife died Sunday September 27, 2009 in Rockledge, Fl.
Mrs. Jones was born in Manhattan, N.Y. on January 22, 1913. She received her primary education in Westbury, Long Island, N.Y. attended Notre Dame of Maryland College in Baltimore. Graduated from Virgil International Conservatory of Music in New York City and taught piano until entering the Flower Fifth Avenue School of Nursing in New York. She worked as a nurse and teacher of the House of Prayer in Clearwater, Fl. and conducted a Bible Study class at the Indian River Colony Club for many years and was a volunteer at Wuesthoff Hospital. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Previously she had been a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she served as a Lector and a Eucharistic Minister. She was preceded in death by her husband Col. Arthur A. Jones, her brother Thomas J. Long, and sister Sister M. Brigid Long, SSND. She is survived by 4 nephews Thomas J. Long, Jr. of Centerville, Ohio, Patrick K. Long of Muttontown, NY, Fr. Garrett Long of Mineola, NY. Rev. Alan Rathe of Yonkers, NY. Caregiver and friend Ms. Bert Maltese of Melbourne, Fl, and friend from IRCC Mrs. Billy Jones. Family would like to thank staff at Huntington Place Nursing Center for their excellent loving care.
Memorial Mass will be held Friday, Oct.2, 2009 at 10:00AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fl.
