Mary Murphy

MURPHY, MARY ALVA “MARYBETH”, of Cocoa Beach, FL, age 75, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 31. She was born in Houston, TX on September 4, 1934 to Alva and Mary Williford Bounds. She graduated from St. Agnes Academy in 1952, after which she attended Baylor University, majoring in Psychology. She later went to work as a counselor for the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department. MaryBeth was a member of the Houston Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Sweet Adelines Barbershop Chorus for Women. She retired to Florida to be with her family in 2003. She will be remembered for her clever wit, spirited charm, generous heart, and the love of her family and her pets. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Robert and Melanie Morgans of Merritt Island, FL, and Michael and Jennifer Rafferty of Orlando, FL; grandson Timothy Morgans. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday Jan. 7 at St. David’s by the Sea Episcopal Church, 600 South 4th St, Cocoa Beach, FL. Interment will take place in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. David’s by the Sea, P.O. Box 320026, Cocoa Beach, FL 32932 or to the Humane Society of the United States.
