Biography
MILDRED ELIZABETH (ORR) HIGHLAND
Mildred Highland, 92, passed away Tuesday July 21, 2009 in Melbourne, FL. Mildred was born in Charlotte, NC in 1916, moved to Maryland in 1942 and has been a resident of Florida since 2007, living with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Shipp.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed.
Mildred was a bookkeeper for John H. Hampshire in Baltimore. She retired in 1976. She was active in Bel Air Golden Age and AARP. She was a member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church for many years. When she moved to Bel Air, she attended and later joined Bel Air United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Philander Highland of 41 years, and her son, Franklin Highland.
Mildred is survived by her daughter Phyllis Highland Shipp and son in law Jerry Shipp of Melbourne, FL. Her grandchildren are Douglas Highland, Dana Ayers, Dawn Swann, Timothy Shipp, and Stephen Shipp all of Maryland. Mildred is also survived by 11 great grandchildren, and Florence Jean, mother of Doug, Dana, and Dawn. A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 1st at 11 am at Bel Air United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, 22nd and St. Paul Streets, Baltimore, Maryland 21218. Burial is private.
