Robert P. Macchia, 82, of Cocoa Beach, FL died Wednesday, August 4, 2010. Bob was born and grew up in the Bronx, New York. He graduated from Fordham University with a BS degree in Physics in 1950. He then served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He began his career as a civilian in 1952 with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was awarded a Ford Grant, where he participated in a Masters Program at the University of Virginia. 'Bob retired as Technical Director of the U.S. Army Topographic Laboratories at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia in 1982 after 30 years of service, moving to Cocoa Beach in 1988. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Louise; three daughters, Teresa Newton of Tucson, AZ, Catherine (Judd) Groshaus of Alexandria, VA, Barbara (Michael) Rosko; and two grandsons, Ryland and Robert, all of Chespeake, VA . A memorial service will be held on September 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Living Bread Christian Church, 1801 S. Orlando Avenue, Cocoa Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Hospice of St Francis, 1250-B Grumman Place, Titusville, IL 32780.
