Sammie R. Jennings, 81, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 at Holmes Regional Hospital. Sammie was born in Morrilition, Arkansas July 8, 1928. He had lived in Brevard County for the past 48 years. He transferred from Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile, Alabama to work on the Space (Atlas) Program as a Electronics Engineer. Sammie had attended the University of Alabama where he obtained an Associate of Arts Degree.
Sammie was a Master Mason of Choctaw Lodge in Choctaw, Arkansas. A ceremony, in which he received his 50 year Membership pin was held in his honor December 12, 2000 at Harbor City Lodge No. 318, F. &A.M. located in Melbourne, Florida. At this time, he was also granted life membership in his Lodge in Arkansas. He would have received his 60 year membership pin in October of this year. Sammie was also a perpetual Life Member of Scottish Rite of Free Masonry in Orlando, FL. In Addition, Sammie was a Charter Member of AZAN Shriner Center in Melbourne, FL where he participated in the AZAN Oriental Band until his recent illness. Sammie also served as a Korean Veteran in the Army.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Rubye, Son Roger and his wife Lydia, Brother Ernest Jennings of Washington, DC and Sister Norma Johnson of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Memorial Services will be held at Cocoa Beach Community Church Wednesday, March 17, at 11:00AM. Donations may be sent to the Cocoa Beach Community Church, 126 South Atlantic Avenue, Cocoa Beach, FL 32932 toward Church's building fund, AZAN Shriners Center, 1591 Eau Gallie Blvd, Melbourne, FL 32935 toward the Shriners' Hospital for Children.
