William Hubert Allen
September 18, 1943 — April 19, 2026
William “Bill” H. Allen, 82, of Cape Canaveral, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026. Bill was born at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas on September 18, 1943 to William & Rose Mary (Tudyk) Allen. He was the eldest brother to three younger sisters, Rosemary (John) Keifer, Angel Kline & Dawn Salmon.
Bill shared a remarkable life with his beloved wife, Linda Gorman Allen. Married on April 16, 1966, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 16, 2026, a milestone that reflected their lifetime of love, devotion, and partnership.
Bill also affectionally known as “Papa” was father to William H. Allen III (Theresa) & Stacy Allen Iredell. He was grandfather to Samuel & Joseph Iredell, William “Liam” Allen IV, and great-grandfather to Emmanuel Allen Iredell-Rodriguez.
Bill served in the US Navy and upon completion of US Naval Submarine School spent time aboard the USS Albacore. Bill was proud of his service on the Albacore and would tell anyone that would listen its story as a pioneering research submarine as well as how they somehow let a Radioman 3rd Class drive the sub and nearly run it aground. Bill would often recall stories of his Navy career, including pushing a rail cart along under water tracks at the bottom of Lake Winnipesauke for Naval research and how he ‘heroically’ guarded dry dock #5 during the Cuban-Missile crisis with a Billy Club. The Albacore is now displayed in a dry basin in Albacore Park in Portsmouth, NH in no small reason due to Bill’s exploits!
Post military, Bill attended American University in Washington DC then began his public service career with the General Services Administration (GSA). He joined NASA as a contract administrator and moved the family to Cocoa Beach, Fl in 1976 where he had a distinguished career supporting the space shuttle program.
Since 1976, Bill has been a dedicated and devoted member of Church of Our Saviour Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach, Fl where he and Linda raised their family. He served the parish in countless ways over the years including as a Lector, Minister of Holy Communion, President of the Parish Council, Chairman of the Our Saviour’s Fair for ten years, represented Our Saviour’s parish on several councils within the Diocese of Orlando and volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul. Bill was a man of deep faith and a lifelong Catholic, whose beliefs were at the heart of who he was.
Some of Bill’s most enjoyable memories came from stocking the food pantry and meeting with the “Monday Group” of St. Vincent de Paul helping those in need in his community. Bill’s service to others extended outside the parish to the community where he lived, serving as a Commissioner and Vice Mayor on the City of Cocoa Beach Commission from 1991 to 1997.
Bill found joy along the shoreline, metal detecting on the beach often uncovering lost class rings and then going to great lengths to track down their owners and return them. This quiet kindness was just one example of the thoughtful and generous spirit that defined his life.
Above all, Bill will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle & brother.
He found so much joy in being around family & friends at any and all gatherings and his legacy will live on through the family he cherished, the community he served, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness, faith, and integrity.
We love you Papa and miss you terribly. Rest in peace.
Funeral Mass and burial Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 10:30am. Church of Our Saviour Catholic Church at 5301 N. Atlantic Ave, Cocoa Beach, Fl 32931
