Yvonne L. White

Yvonne L. White, 98, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Wuesthoff Hospice Care Center in Rockledge, FL. She had been a Cocoa Beach resident since 1980. Yvonne (LeTourneau) was born in Burlington, Vt., on Oct. 6, 1910, one of 10 brothers and sisters. She graduated from the Burlington public school system and went on to a career as a secretary and administrator that lasted until her retirement at the age of 70. Early in her career, she worked for the Shell Oil Company in New York and New England. While working in Albany, N.Y., she met Oliver White, who would become her husband after returning from combat in Europe during World War II. Ollie and Yvonne married in 1946 and two years later, their only child, Tim, was born. They lived in their home in Latham, N.Y. until Yvonne's retirement. After Tim began school, Yvonne returned to work, helping run the job-placement office at Siena College, in Loudonville, N.Y. In Cocoa Beach, Yvonne and Ollie made a host of friends and were active in establishing and helping run the Beachwalk Condominium Association. Ollie died in 2002 at the age of 91. Yvonne was an active member of Our Saviour's Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach. Yvonne is survived by her son, Tim and his wife, Dr. Rachel Blackmer, of Fayetteville, N.C., and her grandson, Eric White, of Atlanta and Nashville. A memorial funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 26 at 10:30a.m. at Our Saviour's Catholic Church, 5301 North Atlantic Ave., Cocoa Beach, followed by the interment of Yvonne's ashes in the church's memorial garden. In lieu of flowers, please take a moment to hug your children and kiss your mother. And as Yvonne taught us, always remember to laugh.
