Joseph Ernest Carrier

January 28, 1934 — April 11, 2026

Joseph Ernest Carrier, affectionately known as Joe, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Born on January 28, 1934, in Rome, New York, Joe lived a long and meaningful life marked by kindness, devotion to family, intellectual curiosity, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Joe grew up in New York and went on to pursue higher education with great dedication, attending Cornell University and completing his studies at Syracuse University. There, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering—an achievement that reflected both his intelligence and strong work ethic.  Joe worked for Carrier Corporation for 36 years retiring in 1997.

Throughout his life, Joe remained active and engaged. He loved playing tennis and could often be found on the court well into his late 70s. A lifelong card player, Joe continued enjoying card games right up until the end of his life, treasuring both the challenge and the camaraderie they brought.  Football was a major passion and he always said he would live until the Buffalo Bills won the Super Bowl 25 times in a row.  He also loved to watch the Philadelphia Eagles and Syracuse University Orangemen play. Camping was another passion, but above all else, Joe loved his family.

Joe was known for his gentle, unassuming nature and his extraordinary kindness. He had a romantic heart and a playful spirit, proudly remaining a charming flirt even at 92 years old. His warmth, humor, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Joe is survived by his loving daughters, Terriruth Carrier (Douglas P. Fenster) and Kellylynn Carrier (Kevin J. Andrews). He was a proud grandfather to Kristen M. Carrierfenster and Kellyn L. Goudie, and was amazed by his great-grandchildren; Esme Goudie, Lillian Brang, Sophia Brang, Keegan Brang, Pierson Brang, and Jacob Brang, each of whom brought him great joy.  He marveled at their brilliance and kindness.

He was preceded in death by his first wife (53 years), Maryruth Carrier, who passed away in 2010, and his second wife (almost 13 years), Sandra Carrier, who passed away in 2025.  He was also predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Mae, and his sister, Beverly June Carrier McDonough, as well as many dear nieces and nephews.

Joe chose a ground burial and now rests at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Cocoa, Florida. A Celebration of Life has been held in Florida, with another celebration planned in New York later this summer so that family and friends may continue to honor and remember him.
