Richard George Cory

Oct 23, 1936 — Jul 6, 2026

Richard “Rick” George Cory, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, veteran, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026, at the age of 89.

Born on October 23, 1936, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Rick moved to California as a young man, where he met the love of his life, Mary Anne. They were married on February 28, 1960, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned 65 years and was rooted in faith, family, and service.

Shortly after their marriage, Rick answered the call to serve his country when he was drafted into the United States Army. Following basic training at Fort Ord, California, he served in Germany as a Combat Vehicle Mechanic. He continued his military career with the U.S. Army Reserve and Department of Defense, where, over 39 years of dedicated service, he rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Four (CW4) before retiring in 2000. His distinguished military career reflected his unwavering commitment to duty, leadership, and service.

Beyond his military career, Rick was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and devoted Catholic. He was the steady foundation of his family, a provider, and quiet leader whose actions spoke louder than words. He believed in hard work, humility, perseverance, education, and serving others, and he instilled those values in his children and grandchildren through his daily example.

Rick was known for his remarkable ability to fix just about anything and for his willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. He approached life with curiosity, patience, and practicality, always believing that every problem had a solution. Those who knew him will also remember his playful sense of humor, quick wit, and good-natured teasing, which brought laughter to family and friends throughout his life.

Following his retirement from military service, Rick enjoyed spending time on the golf course, traveling, and, above all, being present with his family.

Rick is survived by his children, Cathleen Cory Araya, Stephen Cory, and Scott Cory; his grandchildren, Anthony Araya, Beelenn Araya, Chloe Cory, and Olivia Cory; his brothers, Jack Cory and Brian Cory; as well as many extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness and humor.

A Memorial Mass will be held in celebration of his life on Thursday, July 30th 2026, at 10:30 AM at Holy Rosary Church in Edmonds, Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Rick’s memory to Holy Rosary Parish or to Army Emergency Relief at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM).
