William Carroll Whalen, Jr.
April 24, 1930 — September 12, 2013
Bill Whalen was born April 24, 1930, Cody, Wyoming. Bill went to ODea high school for a year, and then moved back to Wyoming to Lovell High School, where he played sports and was on many state competing teams, prior to graduating in 1948. He went on to play football for the University of Washington for one year. Bill joined the National Guard in High school. And in 1950 he was surprised when he was called. He said, that he thought the National Guard was only for high school. Answering the call, he went to fight in the Korean War and joined the Wyoming National Guard 300 Armored Field Artillery Battalion, known as the Cowboy Caners, Bill drove a fuel truck on the front lines. Returning home he continued his education at the University of Washington as a Delta Chi member and graduated in 1955, in Business Administration. Bill met and married the love of his life Barbara Thorp, August, 1955 and was blessed with nine children. Bill through the years worked for several companies. Cascade Distributors, Ramset, Cox Construction, and SECO. During those years the family spent two years in California where Bill worked for Ramset Winchester Western Corporation. When they offered him a higher position in Connecticut, He told his boss, I am not a manager, I am a salesman. Bill returned to Seattle with his family. In 1983 Bill founded Coast Construction Supply and made it the sussful company it is today. Bill is survived by his beloved wife, (Barbara) of 58 years. His children: Bill Jr.(Nonie), Deanna (Doug) Margullis, Tom (Linda), John( Kimberly), Joan (Don) Bowzer, Mina (Tony) Bruni, Rob(Sheila), and Gregg, three brothers, and one sister, nineteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Wm. Carrroll Whalen, mother, Maude Showalter, son Stephen and grandson Elijah. We love you forever ever Bill will be remembered for Love of Family, Faithfulness to friends, mentor to others, Outgoing personality, a wonde sense of humor, Along with Trove of great stories, His love of dancing, cooking and golf, Being an avid sports fan.
