"Monson - Arnold R. Beaton, 83, of Upper Palmer Rd., passed away on October 14, 2013 at Overlook Masonic Health Center following a 6 month battle with cancer. He was born November 12, 1929 in Springfield, MA, son of the late Walter C. and Ruth H. (Lombard) Beaton. He graduated from Springfield Tech in 1947, and took post graduate courses in printing at Trade High School. Arnold worked as a director of graphic services for Mass Mutual Ins. Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1986. In his retirement, he worked for Tower Hill Tomato Farm, Cooks Orchard and County Line Gas Station. He served on the school board for Tantasqua Regional HS, Union 61, and the Hotline for crisis intervention in Southbridge. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting and the outdoors. He kept busy playing volleyball several nights a week at many local high school gyms. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 60 years, Joyce M. (Hill) Beaton of Monson. He will also be missed by a daughter, Kathy Niemann and husband John of Urbandale, IA, son, Andrew Beaton of Brimfield, six grandchildren, Heather, Kristopher, Jessica Beaton, Amanda Beaton, Jonathan (Cody) Frain, Tiffany Copell and husband John and a great grandson, David Bell. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Eleanor Calzarette and in-laws Arthur & Bernice (Betty) Hill. Family and friends may gather to celebrate Arnold's life on Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Hitchcock Free Academy, 2 Brookfield Rd. in Brimfield, MA. Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, was entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics of Massachusetts, 898 Prospect St., Chicopee, MA 01020‎. "
