"Carol E. Smith, 76, of Monson passed away peacefully July 17, 2016 after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of Thomas F. Smith. She was born in North Adams on March 30, 1940 to Harold and Dorothy Alderman, before the family moved to Springfield. Carol graduated from the Commerce High School in Springfield. She worked as an Insurance agent for Liberty Mutual Insurance, the Field Eddy Insurance offices as well as the Scanlon Insurance Agency for many years before retiring in 2002. She then became a Justice of the Peace, officiating numerous weddings throughout western Massachusetts during her retirement years, including one of her Children and two of her Grandchildren. Carol was involved in the Red Hats Society. In addition to her husband Tom, she leaves her sister, Barbara Alderman of Springfield, her children Susan Peavy and her husband Kenneth, Lynn Minney and her husband Michael, Brian Kirk and his wife Kelly, Thomas Smith and his wife Sharon, Timothy Smith and his wife Jayne and Tammy Hallihan and her husband Sean. She leaves 13 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved cat Bailey. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 12:00 P.M. at the Beers and Story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 N. Main St. Visitation will precede the Service beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104. "
