Daisy C. Syriac

"Daisy C. (Dodge) Syriac, formerly of Belchertown passed away in FL on July 21, 2013 at the age of 70. Daisy married her childhood sweetheart Richard R. Syriac Sr. on December 31, 1960 and together they traveled the world while he served in the Navy. Daisy, Richard, and their children moved back to Belchertown in 1977 when Richard retired from the Navy. Daisy worked for the former Belchertown State School from 1978 until it closed. Richard taught at Pathfinder Vocational Technical School. After twenty years they moved to Florida in 1998. Richard passed away last year in Florida where they lived and enjoyed their retirement. Daisy moved back to Massachusetts this year to be closer to her children Marjorie Dunham of Shelburne Falls, Steven Syriac of Ware, and Richard Syriac Jr. of South Carolina, along with nine grandchildren; Danny, Heather, Jonathan, Nicole, Richard III, Shane, Shawn, and Stephanie and six great-grandchildren with the seventh expected in October. Daisy also leaves behind three sisters Gladys O'Connell and Marie Boucher of FL, and Marjorie Chevalier of Ware, as well as many nieces and nephews. Anyone who knew Daisy loved her for her strength and outspokenness. She always said what was on her mind and never held anything back. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend and dedicated her life to being a care-taker for everyone in her life. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 6 at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral home from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Ceremony at 2:00 p.m. For those wishing, donations may be made in her memory to an area Senior Center of donor's choice.
