Donald K. Carver

" Donald K. Carver, 88, of 50 Quarry Hill Rd. died Saturday May 28 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Ludlow, MA February 1, 1917, he was the son of the late Elmer and May (Anderson) Carver. Donald grew up in Ludlow attending Ludlow High School and was a 1933 graduate of Clarke School for the Deaf. He lived in Springfield for 50 years before moving to East Longmeadow in 1995. He worked in the family sawmill at Ludlow City and several companies in the Springfield area before retiring in 1980 from the Plastics Machinery Division of Hoover Universal. He was a loyal member of the Bay State Deaf Senior Citizens serving as a treasurer for many years. Donald was a faithful volunteer for the Office of Ministry With the Deaf and attended most functions of ICDA #121 as a friend. He was a member of the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf and the Friends of East Longmeadow Library. He enjoyed traveling with his late wife of 50 years, Josephine (Pomeroy). He also enjoyed sports, history and the air shows at Westover. Donald will be sadly missed by his three nephews, Richard Carver and his wife Gloria of Granby, Rev. Sherwood Carver and his wife Carole of Albany, NY and Gordon Williams of IN along with his niece Janice Carver and her lifetime partner Norma Long of Lutherville, MD. He also leaves many great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at the Beers and Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St. (Rt. 116) Friday June 3rd at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Ludlow Center Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the service at 12:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Bay State Deaf Senior Citizens c/o Council on Aging , 328 N.
