Hortense Evelyn Moreau

"Belchertown, Hortense Sandy (Forget) Moreau, 92, died Tuesday, July 26. Born in Holyoke on June 29, 1924, she was the daughter of Alcidas and Medora (Viens) Forget. She attended the Immaculate Conception School and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1942. During the 1940s she was a lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol and worked at Steve Arms and later American Writing. She married Francis Moreau in 1948 and lived in Boston while he was in college. Upon returning to the area, she worked at Remington Rand and moved to Belchertown in 1955. She was a communicant of St. Francis Church. She loved to bowl and belonged to several different leagues over the years. She also loved to swim and could be found at the Chestnut Hill pool several times a week, until recently. She went to the Senior Center for nearly 30 years and enjoyed her time with all her friends there. She and her late husband traveled all over the United States, Canada and Europe. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Francis R. Moreau, her sister Jeanne Forget, her sister in law, Leona Conrad and husband Ed, and her brother in law John Lawrey. She is survived by her 4 children, Rosalind, Richard and Celeste of Belchertown and John of Springfield, along with her best friend since childhood, Alice Guimond. She also leaves her niece Sue Wells and husband John, her sister in law Sharleen Lawrey and her sons Michael and Christopher Ziemba. Additionally, many cousins in Quebec and Ontario survive her. The family wishes to thank all those working at Care One in Northampton for their exceptional care and kindness. Funeral services will be on Monday, August 1 at 9:00 from Beers and Story Belchertown Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Francis Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery in South Hadley.
