"Belchertown - Irene C. (Seymour) Gay, 84, of Tucker Lane died on July 30, 2013 at Wingate at South Hadley. Born September 15, 1928 in Colechester, VT, she was the daughter of Otis E. and Melba (Blodgett) Seymour. Irene worked at the Belchertown State School as a unit manager, and was an EMS instructor as well as being part of the staff. Irene was the first police matron in Belchertown and also was active as a den mother for the Boyscouts. Being an active member in the Hope United Methodist Church, she often donated her knitting to the church and was part of the Women's Auxillary. Irene was predeceased by her husband Ernest Gay, Sr. in 1997 and will be greatly missed by her children, Randall Gowing wife Helena of Springfield, Robert Dubuque and wife Margaret of Granby, Vicki O'Brien and husband Michael of Belchertown, Michelle Knapp and husband David of NC, Chris Daley and wife Pearl of Belchertown, along with step son Ernest Gay Jr. and his partner Linda of Belchertown, 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers Larry and Brad Seymour and step son Gary Gay. A memorial service will be Monday at Hope United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church in her memory. For details, www.beersandstory.com "
