Jacob E. Rose

Dec 20, 1993 — Mar 21, 2013

"Lost a Loved One March 21 Belchertown, Jacob Elija Rose, 19, of River St., died suddenly on March 21 in Worcester. Born in Northampton December 20, 1993 he was the son of H. Bradford Rose of Belchertown and Provincetown with whom he lived and Kathleen Harriet Caldwell of Chicopee. Jacob grew up in Belchertown and summered in Provincetown. Jacob attended St. Pauls Nursery School in Holyoke MA, Belchertown Public schools and North Star Self Directed Learning for Teens. In the short span of his life he worked at times in construction, pizza delivery, direct advertising landscaping-snow removal, as a break dancer/busker, face painter and method actor. His plan was to enroll in Holyoke Community College to pursue a career in horticulture. Jacob was a multi-sport athlete who played for Belchertown Lacrosse, Rec basketball and Belchertown Granby Eagles Football. In his leisure, he enjoyed skateboarding, bombing hills on longboards, BMX bikes, street and dirt motorcycling, paintball, snowboarding, inline skating, archery, shooting sports, internet gaming, various forms of dance, surfing, sailing, pier diving, public performance art, hiking and piracy. Jacob enjoyed volunteering and helped expand the Provincetown skate park, was instrumental in the rejuvenation of the Belchertown skate park and had recently participated in the 25th Swim for Life across Provincetown harbor. The spirit of Pan in the body of a panda, Jacob was a great friend to children and was a generous and gregarious soul known for offering hospitality and aid to others. When an extra mouthed appeared at the dinner table or lay snoring on the couch or sprawled across a chair it wasn't hard to guess the source. Jacob identified strongly with his Norse and Celtic ancestry, yearned to be a modern Viking and was well on his way to accumulating a rich tapestry of body art. Jacob will be forever loved and remembered by his parents, his brother Aaron Kenyon Caldwell, nephew Murphy Lee Scanlon, his Nana Joyce Caldwell, Grandmother Mildred Joan Rose, god parents Richard and Michelle Groux, several dozen cousins and a few fast friends that were family in all but name. The family welcomes friends to gather at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, 10 Maple St., (Rte. 202) on Thursday, March 28 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. for a visitation.
