"Jean N. (Cariota) Hulmes, 94, died peacefully, September 29, 2013 at Wingate in South Hadley. Born in Patterson, NJ, December 21, 1918, the daughter of Pasquale and Teresa Cariota. She lived in Belchertown and Biddeford, ME for most of her life. She graduated New York City Hospital as a Registered Nurse and had worked many years for Dr. Kenneth Collard in Belchertown before retiring. Her husband Jack Hulmes preceded her in death in 1989. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Belchertown. She will be missed by her three children, Jack and Margaret Hulmes of Belchertown, Thomas and Connie Hulmes of Maryville, TN and Leita Hulmes of Cuenca, Ecuador. Additionally, she leaves 5 grandchildren, Melinda, Jill, Kimberly, Suzanne and Steven along with 10 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. and many nieces and nephews. The last of 5 children, she was, predeceased by her sisters Kate DiMartino and Mary Scialla and her brothers Salvatore Cariota and Thomas Cariota. The services will be private and have been entrusted to Beers and Story Belchertown Furneral Home. For those wishing, donations may be made in her memory to CMTA, Vittorio's Circle of Friends, (Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association, P.O. Box 105, Glenolden, PA 19036). "
