"Palmer - Jean Nichols, 83, of Alden St. passed away on March 17, 2010 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born May 23, 1926 in Palmer, MA, son of the late Christian and Lena (Gernon) Nichols. Living in Palmer for all of his life, Jean proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. He was a previous member of the VFW and active in the Boy Scouts while his sons were growing up. Being a Scout Leader and a "Jack of all Trades", Jean was also a part of the Western MA Model A Ford Restorers. For over 30 years Jean was the maintenance manager at CF Church Manufacturing, a division of American Standard. For a couple years he also worked at Zero Manufacturing in Monson. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Shirley (Gouvin) along with his children Eugene Nichols of Monson, David Nichols and his wife Susan of Alamogordo, New Mexico and Sandra Harvey and her husband Steven of Belchertown. "Pepé" will also be missed by his grandchildren Jessie Nichols and Nicholas and Reece Harvey along with a sister Elaine Keyes of VA. Jean was predeceased by his daughter Donna M. Nichols in 1998. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. Friends and family may gather at 9:15 a.m. on Monday to process to a Mass of Christian Liturgy at St. Thomas Church at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to the Kidney Foundation of MA, 129 Morgan Dr., Norwood MA 02062. "
