" Palmer, John Sakowski, 84, died Monday at home. Born in Three Rivers, April 24, 1921, he was the son of the late Stanley and Stella (Hintonik) Sakowski. Mr. Sakowski was a lifelong resident of Palmer. He was a US ARMY Veteran of WWII, and served as a field engineer in Germany and France. John worked for G & C Merriam Co. in Springfield for 23 years and retired in 1981. He previously worked for Mount Holyoke College and Colorado Fuel & Iron. John was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans, was an avid gardener and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Harriet M. (Lostrappo) Sakowski in October 2004. He will be missed by his children David St. John of Wellesley, John Sakowski, Jr, and Donna Bergeron and her husband Michel of Monson, along with his three grandchildren, Jessica St. John, and Kristoffer and Ashleigh Bergeron. He also leaves his sister in law Loretta Zebrowski and her husband Francis of Palmer and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his daughter- in-law Linda (Hall) St. John in 2002 as well as two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the service on Wednesday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. For those wishing, donations may be made in his memory to Make A Wish Foundation of Western & Central MA, Inc., 1 Armory Square, Springfield, MA 01105.
