"Belchertown – Lewis E. Squires, 86, of Jabish St., died Monday at home surrounded by his family. Born Dec. 26, 1918 in Belchertown, MA he was a life long resident. He was the son of the late Ira and Clara (Pittsinger) Squires, he was the youngest and last of nine children in his family. He served in the US Army Air Force as a top turret gunner on the B25 during WWII, in the 489th Bomb Squadrant and 340th Bomb Group and received an Air medal for flying 51 missions and a campaign medal. Lewis retired in 1983 as a mechanic from Quabbin Resevoir after working for 17 Years, he also worked for 2 years for Hulmes Transportation. Mr. Squires was predeceased by his first wife Ethel (Howe) Squires in 1987 and by a stepson Richard Squires. He is survived by his wife Wanda (Stokosa) Squires and seven children Kenneth H. of Wells, ME, Leslie E., of Belchertown, Lewis A. of Greenville, TX, Robert J. of Belchertown, Douglas G., of Portsmouth, VA, Mark G. of Kihei, HI and Dale Ann Boucher of Kennebunkport, ME. He also leaves stepchildren Christine A. Wheeler of Belchertown, Linda Lloyd of Palmer, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A funeral service will be Saturday at 10:00 am at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, followed burial in Quabbin Park Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4:00-7:00 pm.
