"Belchertown, Nellie P. (Mitus) Lysik, 87, of S. Washington St., died peacefully April 5, 2010 at home surrounded by her caring family. Born in Wilbraham, July 12, 1922, she was the daughter of Stephen and Karolina (Szlam) Mitus. Nellie has lived in Belchertown since 1940 when she married her husband Stanley. Among the many things which filled her life was tending the family farm, making her famous pierogis, Sunday picnics, and caring for her large family. Besides her parents, her husband Stanley preceded her in death in 1977. She will be deeply missed by her 9 children, Patricia Dulude, Michael Lysik, Jean Roberts and her husband Ronald, Carolyn Whitcomb and her husband Duane, Sandra Ryburn and her husband Harold, Lorraine Skura and her husband Michael, Eileen Crowther, and Janet Borkowski and her friend Rick Strodel all of Belchertown, along with Debora Sinclair and her husband Timothy of Ware. Of her 10 siblings, the two surviving are Stella Davis of Wilbraham, and Dominica Jarvis of Ludlow. She also leaves 19 precious grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. Calling hours will be Thursday, April 8 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 N. Main St. A funeral mass will be Friday at 10:00 in Divine Mercy Church followed by burial in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Friends may gather at the funeral home for 9:00 a.m. "
