"Belchertown - Philip H. Lafland, 80, died peacefully at his home in Belchertown on Nov. 24, 2018. Born in Wade, Maine to Philip M. and Hannah (Newbegin) Lafland. He proudly served his country in the US Army for over 20 years and was a Vietnam Veteran. He later on served as a station manager for several gas stations. Philip loved country music, played many instruments and sang as well. He was a member of the Old Times Band at the Belchertown Senior Center. Philip loved to do all types of puzzles. He was also an avid Red Sox fan. Philip was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara J. Foley in 2016 and his son Donald Lafland in 2014. He was predeceased by two sisters, Maude (Lafland) Abbott of ME and Phyllis (Lafland) Cloukey of ME. He is survived by 5 children, Michael S. Lafland of Alaska, Denise (Lafland)Tarbox of Hinsdale, NH, Charles P. Lafland and his wife Mary of Oxford, ME, Kenneth E. Lafland of Springfield and Mary E. Lafland of Kentucky and a step daughter Linda Bressette of Belchertown. He leaves three grandsons that were very dear to him, Michael, Kyle and Philip Tarbox of New Hampshire, a granddaughter Ruby Hagen of Michigan and 1 great grandchild Emma Jo Tarbox of MA. He is also survived by three sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" (Lafland) Spooner of ME, Annie (Lafland) York of ME and Lillian (Lafland) Clark of MA. Philip also leaves his two cats he loved very much Trouble and Pumpkin, they loved to sit with him and watch his Red Sox games and they loved to get his attention when he was deeply involved with his music and puzzles. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 3:00 p.m the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. A Celebration of Life will follow at PineValley Plantation Manor House in Belchertown. Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, was entrusted with the arrangements."
