Robert H. Woodson

" Granby – Robert Halford Woodson, 54, of Parish Hill Rd., died at home with his wife and friends by his side on Nov. 28, 2005. Born on Aug. 14, 1951 in Maryland, he is the son of Marguerite (Stewart) Woodson of Coronado, CA and the late Halford Woodson. Robert received a master of arts degree in psychology from Johns Hopkins University and a doctoral degree in psychology from the University of London. He was a Fulbright Scholar and a pioneer in the study of attachment theory. Robert and his wife Shelley moved to Granby three years ago and dedicated themselves to restoring the Old Alpheus Ferry Tavern, built in 1816. He loved his orchard and his cats, Jania and Rubin. Robert worked in Fund Development for Sisters of Providence Health System in Springfield and as a professor for Holyoke Community College. Previously he worked for a number of years in Texas, first as a special assistant to the Lieutenant Governor, then as an administrator and professor for the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Robert attended the Unitarian Universalist Society of Amherst, was an avid democrat and dedicated member of the Granby Historical Association. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife Shelley (Janiczek) Woodson and four siblings. On Saturday, family and friends may gather in celebration of his life from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St., (Rt116).
