"South Hadley - Shirley A. (Goss) Lewis, 92, of South Hadley passed away surrounded by her family on July 18, 2016 at Holyoke HealthCare Center. Born in Holyoke on August 14, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Elbert E. and Catherine B. (Campbell) Goss. Shirley worked 21 years as a Library Clerk for South Hadley High School before retiring. She was an active member of the former Congregational Church of South Hadley Falls . She was a member since birth and sang in her church choir for 69 years. She served on many ministries including Women's Fellowship, Hand of Fellowship, Bible Study and Hand Bell choir. Shirley was a believer in prayer and a positive thinker. Her faith, prayers and love of family are a legacy to her children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George W. Lewis, Jr. in 1993. Shirley leaves her three loving children, George W. Lewis III and his wife Nancy of MI, Cathy Harper and her husband Doug of Sagamore Beach, and Cindy Milewski and her husband Jim of South Hadley; her six grandchildren, Kimberly, Lindsay, Douglas Jr, Allison, Joey, and Hannah; and four great-grandchildren, Molly, Caitlin, Kieran, and Norah. Along with her parents and husband, Shirley was predeceased by her brother, Elbert Goss, Jr. in 1975. The family would like to thank the staff and the 4th floor residents of Holyoke HealthCare Center for their compassionate and loving care to Shirley. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 10am directly at the former Congregational Church of South Hadley Falls, now Morning Star Community Baptist Church, 11 N. Main St, South Hadley. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 4-7pm at Beers and Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association, HHCC Memory Walk Team, c/o Ann Marie Rodriguez, Holyoke Health Care Center, 282 Cabot St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
