"Granby, Speridon "Spero" Themistocles Anastasovites, 80, of Granby, passed away peacefully on September 12th at Baystate Medical Center, surrounded by his family. Born June 19, 1936 in Springfield, to Themistocles "Tom " and Kalliope "Kale" (Aivalis) Anastasovites, he lived in Springfield for most of his life, before relocating to Granby in May, 2003. He graduated from Springfield Trade High School in 1954, then served in the Army from 1958 to 1961, and in the reserves through 1964. He worked at General Offset Printing as a Pressman from 1954 to 1980. He completed his working career in the East Longmeadow High School as a custodian from 1981 to 1998, when he retired. Spero was an active member of the PV8 Camping Club for 39 years and held various officer positions over the years. He also volunteered for many years at Baystate Medical Center. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Marguerite (Hood), to whom he's been happily married for 57 years. He also leaves four children: Ann (and David) St. Germain of Hollis, NH; Elaine (and Jeff) Meikle of Tyngsboro, MA; Michael (and Heather) of Granby, Christina (Tina) Anastasovites and her boyfriend, Scott Chisholm, of Belchertown, along with his 3 precious grandchildren: Michael and Daniel St. Germain, Dani Ashley Anastasovites and step grandchild, Cameron Meikle. He also leaves a sister, Maria Crowson, as well as many sisters- and brothers-in-laws, many nieces, nephews and cousins, numerous friends, including all of the "Charlie's" over the years. Funeral services will be Monday, September 19 at 9:00 a.m. at the Beers & Story S. Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St, (Rte. 116), followed by burial in Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Agawam at 11:00 a.m. Calling hours are Sunday from 3:00 - 5:00 P.M. To honor Spero's memory, please dress casually. For those wishing, donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 34 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, 01107 and the Holyoke Soldier's Home, 110 Cherry St, Holyoke, 01040."
