"Brimfield, Stephen J. Denning, 55, of 10 Hastings Lane Brimfield passed away suddenly on September 14, 2016. Stephen has been a lifelong resident of Brimfield. Born March 31, 1963 in Palmer, he was the son of the late Timothy J. Denning and Margaret J. (Brown) Denning. For over 30 years, Stephen served the area as a Brimfield Firefighter and an EMT with the Brimfield Ambulance Service. He retired as the Fire Chief, after holding that position for 10 years. He was Brimfield's Civil Defense Director, later known as the Emergency Management Director, for many years. He also served the Town of Holland as a Police Officer. He was a well-known DJ, playing at parties and weddings all around the area. He often volunteered his DJ services to entertain the kids at the Brimfield and Holland Elementary Schools. He began his career in entertainment on WESO radio in Southbridge. He was part of the team broadcasting local high school sports. He enjoyed broadcasting from the field during the Thanksgiving Day football games, no matter the weather. His love of high school sports started when he was a student at Tantasqua Regional High School. For several years after his graduation, the Stephen J. Denning Award was given to the senior who showed the most school spirit. He is survived by his four children, Timothy Denning, Becca Cincotta, Amelia Denning and Logan Denning along with his brother Mark Denning and his wife Shirley. He also leaves aunts and cousins, along with his nieces Amanda Warren and her family, and Rachel Denning and her family. He leaves behind many great friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his niece Melissa Denning. Burial will be at the family's convenience. Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. To honor his memory, donations may be made to the Stephen J. Denning Memorial Scholarship at Country Bank 1485 N Main St. Palmer, MA 01069. The scholarship will be awarded to the Tantasqua senior who exhibited the most school spirit and community service during their years at the school. "
