"Palmer- Verner T. “Bib” Barrett, 88, of Shearer St. died August 1 at Health South. Born November 25, 1916 in Roebling, NJ, he was the son of the late Thomas and Elsie (Bergstrom) Barrett. Verner has lived in Palmer all of his life and retired from CF & I in Palmer after 33 years of service. He was a 50-year member of the Second Congregational Church, a member of the Thomas Lodge of Masons, a member of the Melha Shrine, past president of the Hajea’s in Springfield, and a member of the Vassa Lodge in Springfield. Verner was liked by all and always had a smile and a way for everyone. Verner is survived by his wife Jessimond (Shearer) whom he married October 19, 1957. He leaves a sister Barbara Mix of Deerfield, Ohio and sister-in-law, Henrietta Barrett of Palmer as well as many nieces and nephews. He also is survived by dear, loyal friends Grace and Edward Kulpa of Palmer. Verner was predeceased by his siblings Dorothy Zirkle, Alice St. George, Stanley and John Barrett. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Second Congregational Church. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:30-12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. Donations may be made in his memory to either Shriner’s Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104 or Second Congregational Church, 1080 Pleasant St., Palmer, MA 01069. "
