William "Bill" J. Mastroianni
July 6, 1936 — June 25, 2025
William J. (Bill) Mastroianni made a peaceful transition on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at his home in Belchertown, MA, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 6, 1936, the son of the late Leo and Rita Mastroianni of North Adams, MA.
The theme that ran through Bill’s life was humor; no matter how challenging things got, he was always able to extract the humor out of any situation. With his alter ego, “Joe King,” he was ready with a pun, a quip, or a dad joke for any occasion. A true renaissance man, his interests included painting, art, poetry, writing, music, spirituality, psychology, cooking, and science. He was an avid reader, and he could speak to myriad subjects with ease.
Bill received his Bachelor of Arts with Honors at College of the Holy Cross, and he received his Master of Education in Counseling at Harvard University, where he also worked on his doctorate. He was a teacher, a counselor, a magazine editor, and spent 10 years helping people with mental health issues.
A consummate observer of life, he strived to understand the complexities of the world around him. He modelled compassion towards all humanity, and taught his family to accept everyone for who they are.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of nearly 64 years, Joyce Wilk Mastroianni, his son, David Mastroianni (and wife Ricci), his daughter, Michele Mastroianni Crochiere (and husband Michael), his daughter, Juliet M. Warhurst, his daughter, Lisa Ann Mastroianni, his brother, James Mastroianni (and wife Linda), six grandchildren (and their partners), and 4 great-grandchildren. He also leaves sisters-in-law, Mira Mastroianni and Ann Mastroianni. Bill was predeceased by brothers, Leo A. and Kenneth P. Mastroianni.
In lieu of a funeral, there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to two programs that support developmentally delayed individuals, as follows.
