Dominic Jerome Mower
January 8, 1975 — July 25, 2012
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in Capitola on Friday for Dominic Mower who died in Watsonville on July 25, 2012. Born and raised in Santa Cruz, he was 37 years old. Following high school, Dom became a talented auto mechanic who worked out of his Watsonville shop. His family will forever remember his love, compassion, resourcefulness and ability to live in the present moment. He accepted people from all walks of life and did not judge them based on their appearance or life style. He had a gift of making people feel special and his sense of humor was contagious. He enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles and sharing these talents to help his family, friends and neighbors. He loved to build or repair go-carts and bicycles and give them to children. In true MacGyver fashion, Dom could fix or repair almost anything. He was very proud of his home and shop in Watsonville and loved the neighborhood in which he lived. His generosity with all things material was symbolic of the way in which he loved everybody to the very best of his ability. He had a passion for adrenaline fueled activities including high performance cars and motorcycles, snowboarding, surfing, dirt bikes, and dune buggies. He enjoyed fishing and often spoke of his desire to be a river-fishing guide someday. Most importantly, Dominic had shared with his mom shortly before his death that he was happy with his life, felt good about himself and was "good with God".
Dom is survived by his mother and father, Joell and Ken Mower; his sister Corin and brother in-law Myles Routh; and his two nieces Annika and Alexis Routh all of Aptos. He also leaves his maternal grandmother Dorothy Nunes of Livermore; his two beloved canine companions, Octavia and Buster, and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
The mass with reception to follow will be held on Friday August 3, 2012 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (435 Monterey Ave.) in Capitola beginning at 12 p.m. Remembrances may be made to SCCCC "In Honor of Dominic", Att: Clare Wesley, 195 Harvey West Blvd, Santa Cruz, CA 95060. Funds will be appropriated to the Y.E.S. School and/or Community Recovery Center (CRS).
