Saralie Silva

Feb 23, 1936 — Apr 26, 2026

Saralie was born on February 23, 1936, in San Francisco, California, to Joe and Roslie Thompson. She was the second of their children and spent her early years in the Almaden Valley, where she developed a lifelong love of adventure, climbing trees, and the outdoors.

After graduating from school, Saralie worked for Sunsweet Growers and later for Lockheed. It was during her time at Lockheed, at a friend’s party, that she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Silva.

Not long afterward, the two were married in Carson City, Nevada, in a memorable late-night ceremony officiated by a female minister wearing curlers and a bathrobe. Accompanied by her widowed mother and her mother’s beloved companion, Lyle, it became a family story that would be retold with laughter for years to come.

Saralie and Bob began their life together in San Jose before moving to Soquel, where they raised their family and built their business, Coast Lighting. Later, they settled in Sonora, where they enjoyed many wonderful years on the lake. Together, “Grandma Ducks” and “Grandpa Boat,” as they became affectionately known to their grandchildren, created a lifetime of memories filled with laughter, adventure, family gatherings, and endless love.

Throughout her life, Saralie found joy in bowling leagues, twist contests, traveling, boat rides on the lake, country drives, mango margaritas, family dinners, and, most of all, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her greatest accomplishments were her family, her unwavering faith, and earning her college degree at the age of 60—a testament to her determination and love of learning. She faithfully served her church, in both Sonora and back here in Santa Cruz, and inspired others through her kindness, compassion, and generous spirit.

When asked how she wanted people to remember her, Saralie’s answer was simple:

“With a smile.”

Anyone who knew her understands why. Her smile was warm, contagious, and welcoming. It brightened every room she entered and left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Lea was reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband and lifelong love, Robert “Bob” Silva. She leaves behind a loving family, including her children, Brook and Michelle, their spouses, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Nothing brought Grandma Ducks greater joy than watching her family grow, and her love, guidance, faith, and warm smile will continue to live on through each generation.

Her legacy of faith, kindness, perseverance, and love will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched.

We invite all those who knew and loved Lea to help tell her story by sharing memories and messages in the guest book below. Thank you for helping us celebrate a life so beautifully lived.
