Nancy Mary D'Angelo

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother. She was born Maria Annunziata Calabretta on Nov. 7, 1929, in Midland, Pennsylvania to Italian immigrants, Nazzarena and Salvatore Calabretta. Nancy met the love of her life, Dr. Thomas “Bud” Carmen D’Angelo. They married on June 13, 1948, and relocated to Carmel in 1956. Nancy and Bud maintained a loving and supportive marriage of 70 years up until Bud’s passing in 2018. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas and supported many charities and was an amazing caretaker to friends and family. Nancy worked early on in her husband’s dental office and owned and operated her shop, The City of Florence, in Carmel. She loved art, Italia music, crafting, dancing, reading and creating wedding veils and arrangements for family and friends. Our mom and grandmother especially enjoyed cooking and baking many of her favorite Italian recipes. Christmas was always very special to her as she would recreate her father’s Nativity scenes and would adorn her home with many decorative angels. Our mom and grandmother taught us the value of kindness, manners, respect and hospitality. She was known for being nurturing, caring and compassionate to all. She was the heart of our family and will be loved and cherished forever. She was very close to her many nieces and nephews on the West Coast, as well as the East Coast. Nancy is survived by her daughter, Paula (Bill) and son, Thomas; grandchildren, Christen, Michelle, Benjamin, Andrea, Alicia, Thomas and Enzo. and great-grandchildren, Kendal, Sawyer, Luca, Avianna, Isabelle and Oliver. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 19 in Carmel Mission Basilica with reception immediately following at Carmel Mission Crespi Hall. Burial will take place at 1 p.m. at San Carlos Cemetery, Monterey
