Dewitt David Devendorf
May 18, 1954 — Jun 18, 2026
DeWitt David Devendorf left this earth suddenly on June 18, 2026 only a month after his 72nd birthday. David lived his entire life on Devendorf Road in the Town of Florida, New York. A dedicated farmer he honored the heritage of his ancestors by cultivating the land on the Devendorf Farm, understanding its history of more than 250 years, and preserving the artifacts of the generations that preceded him.
David was a 1973 graduate of Fonda Fultonville High School and received and Associates Degree from Cobleskill AG and TECH College in 1975.
David, as a Son of the American Revolution, loved history, collected antiques and worked on local historical preservation projects. He served on the Board of Directors for The Palentine Settlement Society. He loved woodworking and his nieces and nephews received refinished antique furniture and handmade toys reminiscent of by gone years. Although he swore he could not cook he would often show up with homemade pies for Thanksgiving.
He leaves behind his younger brother and lifelong farm partner Brian James Devendorf, also of Devendorf Road. An older sister, Linda D Torre Kaufman (Adam) of Bluffton, SC and a younger sister Rachael Osborn of McLean, VA. He is remembered fondly by his seven nieces and nephews Jason Osborn Flushing NY, Kylah Torre Austin TX, Matthew Osborn (Rachel) Arlington VA, Brandon Torre (Cristi) Bluffton SC, Lauren Osborn (Luke Spradlin) Portland OR, and five great nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30am on July 10, 2026 at Devendorf Family Cemetery, 329 Denice Road, Florida, New York 12010.
He will remembered for his kindness and his keen sense of humor. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to The Palentine Settlement Society, 501(c)(3) nonprofit P.O. Box 183 St Johnsville, NY 13452.
