Dorothy A. Rose, 81, of Route 30A, Fultonville, passed away on Sunday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, with her loving family at her bedside.
Born June 22, 1930 in Fultonville, New York, she was the daughter of the late George and Ada Borden Friers. She was a life long resident of Fultonville and graduated from the Fultonville High School.
Dorothy was a teacher's aide for the Fonda- Fultonville Central School District for several years. She was a member of the Fonda- Fultonville United Methodist Church and was a good Christian woman.
She was a very social person. Dorothy enjoyed meeting new people and having a good conversation. She also quilted, walked every day and cherished her family, camping and years earlier square dancing with her husband.
On July, 3, 1948 she married Melvin R. Rose. Besides her husband she is survived by a son Jeffrey Mary Lou Rose of Rochester; a daughter, Gail Kinnie of Amsterdam, NY; four brothers, James Friers of Madison, NY, George Arthur Friers of Fultonville, NY, Robert Friers of Oriskany Falls, NY and David Friers of Fultonville; three sisters Irene Meyer of Dallas, TX, Jean Palmatier of Clifton Park, NY and Kathryn Lusso of Fultonville; four grandchildren, Carissa Brian Smolyn and Nicole Kinnie of Schenectady, Kevin Rose of Boston, MA and Bryan Rose of Rochester; one great granddaughter, Emma Rose Smolyn; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Dorothy was predeceased by her son, Melvin R. Rose, Jr. who passed away in 1951 and a sister Elois Cole.
Funeral services will be held Thursday evening June 21, 2012 at 6:00 PM at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY with the Rev. Nancy Pullen officiating. A calling hour will be held on Thursday from 5 to 6 PM at the funeral home. Cremation will follow on Friday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's memory to the Fonda- Fultonville United Methodist Church, 11 Montgomery Street, Fultonville, NY 12072 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Street, Gloversville, NY 12078.
