Florence H. Grimm passed away peacefully with family at her bedside on June 26, 2026. She was born in Jamaica, NY, November 2, 1930, to Anna and August Holsten. Florence was a graduate of Middletown (NY) High School and the Applied Arts & Sciences College in Utica, NY (Class of 1950). She worked for Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam, NY in the testing and chenille color labs. Later, she worked for Schenectady Discount Corp, a mobile home financing branch of the Bank of Maryland and at Hotaling Florist in Amsterdam.
Florence was active in the beginning stages of Planning and Zoning for the Town and Village of Galway. She was a former Village of Galway Trustee, 4-H club leader and a long-time volunteer for the George Landis Arboretum, serving 6 years on the Board and 7 years as Buildings and Grounds Chairperson. She was also a competitive swimmer, published author and prize-winning weaver. Florence loved hiking, biking, canoeing, skiing, traveling and her kayak.
Florence is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert Grimm, her two daughters Beth Ruman (John Sutton), Amy Orth (Steve), three grandchildren Elizabeth Sutton (Dixon Speaker), William Sutton (Ling Lo) and Andrew Sutton (Ashley), one greatgrandchild Charlotte Rose Sutton, her sister Joan Henry, nephew Scott McCauley and her beloved cousins in Germany. She is predeceased by Edward D. Ruman.
A Burial and a Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00pm on a July 13, 2026, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, New York 12068.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Landis Arboretum, PO Box 186, Lape Road, Esperence, NY, 12066 or to an organization of your choice.
