Mrs. Greta Bakuzonis, 91, of Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 16, 1928 to Joseph and Martha (Sagaitis) Schell, she attended Wilbur Lynch High School, graduating class of 1946, and went on to attend Union University Albany College of Pharmacy where she graduated with a Bachelors in Pharmacy. She married John P. Bakuzonis on October 17, 1953.
Greta worked as a Pharmacist for a total of 43 years. She began her career working at Schell’s Pharmacy with her father, who owned the business. Through her early career, she worked at Albany Medical Center, Queen's Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii, and St Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. She then opened The Pharmacy on Guy Park Ave in Amsterdam. She then worked at Memorial Hospital in Amsterdam before retiring in 1992.
She loved spending time with her family, as well as with her friends, many of which were customers at her pharmacy. Greta also greatly enjoyed gardening. She was a member of the National Association of Retail Pharmacists, Pharmaceutical Society of New York, the Heritage and Genealogical Society of Montgomery County, and the Amsterdam Garden Club.
She is survived by her loving family, including her children; John S. Bakuzonis, Mark Bakuzonis, Gretchen Cedrone-Fontaine, Lynne Bakuzonis, and Christine Bakuzonis. She is also survived by her twin grandsons, Cory and Kyle and his wife Kara Cedrone. She is predeceased by her parents and her husband John "Bucky" Bakuzonis.
Funeral services will be held privately, at the family’s convenience.
