Joseph J. Rossi, Jr., 87, of Division Street, Amsterdam, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, January 23, 2011, at the Pathways Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Niskayuna.
Born December 13, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph J. and Christine Barbey Rossi, Sr.
Joseph moved to Amsterdam in the 1950's. He was employed by ConRail in Selkirk, NY as a general foreman until retiring in 1985. He was a U.S. Navy veteran in WWII and Korean War and later served in the U. S. Coast Guard.
Joseph was a parishioner of the former St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church. He liked to watch T.V. and read newspapers.
On May 25, 1956 he married Grace Timpani. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter Virginia R. Izzano and her husband David of Broadalbin; four grandsons Joseph D. Izzano and his wife Nicole of Cochecton, NY, Michael Izzano of Amsterdam, Christopher Izzano and Nicholas Izzano both of Broadalbin and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 10:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Asmterdam, NY followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:15 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam, with Rev. Lawrence J. Decker as celebrant. Military honors will take place at the church. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery in Amsterdam. Calling hours will be held 1 hour prior from 9:30 to 10:30 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Joseph's memory to a charity of one's choice.
