Joyce J. Gillis

Joyce J. Bellows Gillis, 79, of East Lykers Rd., Sprakers, NY, passed away Saturday May 23, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Amsterdam, NY on March 22, 1936 a daughter of the late Floyd E. and Arlene Johnson Bellows. She was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. Joyce was a homemaker and took care of her children and family. She was a dedicated member of the Charleston Four Corners Christian Church. She married Charles "Chuck" Gillis Sr. on September 18, 1955. He passed away on September 13, 2008. Survivors include, two sons, Clifford F. (Carmella) Gilllis and Charles E. Gillis Jr. of Amsterdam, NY. Two daughters, Laura A. (John) Kauhane of Honolulu, Hawaii and Sharon E. (Rob) Laport of Sprakers, NY. One brother, Clifford Bellows of Broadalbin, NY. One sister, Jean (Harold) Gray of Amsterdam. Twelve grandchildren, and Fourteen great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. A Memorial service will be held Thursday May 28, 2015 at 10:00A.M. at the Christian Church at Charleston 4 Corners in Sprakers, NY with the Rev. Bret Popp officiating. Cremation will take place at Vale Cemetery Crematorium in Schenectady, NY. A Calling hour will precede the funeral service on Thursday from 9:00A.M. to 10:00A.M. at the church.
